Thank you

To the Editor:

On March 21, Plymouth American Legion Post #243 held a “special” Genuine G.I. Breakfast. It was special because all proceeds were to be directed to the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight program. This program sends World War II veterans, along with guardians, to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., at no charge to the veterans.

Thanks to the generosity of Plymouth citizens and the hard work of post members, checks totaling $2,225 were recently sent to the Port Washington Honor Flight program. The program needs $250,000 to send 300 World War II veterans on this memorable trip, set for May 2, 2010.

As commander of this post, I can’t thank all of the breakfast attendees, post volunteers, and private donations enough for their willingness to see this fundraiser succeed. I would especially like to thank The Review, 1420 The Breeze, Plymouth Community Television and various churches for their generosity in providing the much-needed advertising. All of these people demonstrated the true meaning of the Lenten season providing alms and self-sacrifice to help others.
