Farm Tech Days final grants awarded

The 2006 Sheboygan County Farm Technology Days completed their grant program, awarding the remaining $9,500 to 5 community group projects. These awards bring the overall funds total distributed from the 2006 show to $113,500.

The purpose of the FTD grant program is to provide funding for the development of new programs and projects, or to enhance existing programs in Sheboygan County related to: creating community and consumer awareness of the importance and impact of agriculture; developing innovative agricultural experiences or projects; and offering educational skill building opportunities and support for youth, families, or adults in Sheboygan County.

These projects and community organizations have been award the FTD Grants:

1 Dairy Promotion’s Outreach with “Addie” the Fiberglass Cow — organization: Sheboygan County Dairy Promotions Association. Dairy Promotions will be pooling their resources to invest in a trailer to haul “Addie” the fiberglass cow around to events and schools to educate the public about the dairy industry.

2 Sheboygan County Fairest of the Fair Program — organization: Fairest of the Fair Committee of the Sheboygan County Fair. The program will expand the pre-application search marketing and incrementally build the scholarship program, providing incentives for young adults active in groups such as 4-H, FFA and college organizations to participate in the life-changing experience.

3 Bookworm Gardens — organization: Bookworm Garden’s Executive Committee. A children’s farm garden area based on children’s literature, offers educational opportunities in creating awareness of the importance of agriculture, nutrition and the environment. This particular garden area will tell the story of relationships between people who were instrumental in agricultural history.

4 Sheboygan County Holstein Twilight Meeting — organization: Sheboygan County Holstein Association. The goal of the Twilight Meeting July 22 is to promote the registered Holstein industry as well as modern dairy farming practices. The event is open to agriculture and non-agriculture related people and will feature the new state-of-the-art calf rearing facility, judging contest, meal and educational speaker.

5 Farm/City Business Connection – organization: Sheboygan County Farm Bureau. The event to be held Monday, May 17, is designed to educate Plymouth Chamber of Commerce business owners about the importance and impact that agriculture has on their businesses and our community. Attendees will experience an agricultural showcase, Gibbsville Implement tours, ag impact video, networking and agricultural featured product giveaways.
