Elkhart has three all-league players

Senior Ali Benning and sophomore Alexis Lindstrom of Howards Grove were voted unanimously to the 2009-10 All-Central Lakeshore Conference girls basketball first team by the CLC coaches.
Benning, a 5-foot-8 guard-forward, moved up from the second team last year. Lindstrom, a 5-7 guard, was honorable mention as a freshman.
The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters have three All-CLC players. Senior Kate Vollrath and younger sister, junior Anna Vollrath, were named to the second team and junior Stephanie Knepfel earned honorable mention.
Kate Vollrath, a 5-9 forward, was also on the second unit each of the previous two seasons. Anna Vollrath was honorable mention a year ago.
Benning had a very good all-around league season for the Tigers. She tied for fourth in the CLC in scoring with a 12.9 points-per-game average; ranked third in assists per game at 4.1 and steals, 3.5 per contest; and finished sixth in rebounding with a 7.1 average.
Benning shot 32.6 percent (15 of 46) from three-point range, 48.4 from the field overall and 71.1 at the free-throw line.
“What impressed me the most about Ali this season was her ability to play all positions. She is an allaround player as evidenced by her statistics,” said Tiger head coach Heidi Georgeff.
Lindstrom also had a strong all-around CLC season – ranking in the top 10 in six statistical categories. She finished second in field-goal shooting at 51.7 percent, free-throw accuracy with 82.8 percent (48 of 58) and steals, 3.7 per game.
Lindstrom also ranked sixth in assists per contest at 3.4, tied for sixth in three-point goals with 18 and ninth in three-point shooting, 39.1 percent (18 of 46).
“Alexis was consistent and composed all season. She averaged less than two turnovers per game and for a point guard that’s outstanding,” Georgeff noted.
“She also averages four rebounds a game which was huge for us because we weren’t a strong rebounding team.
I was very impressed with her free-throw shooting this season. She could be counted on to hit those free throws for us down the stretch,” Georgeff pointed out.
Kate Vollrath was ninth in the conference in scoring with a 10.1 average. She hit 74.0 percent at the foul line and averaged 1.9 assists, 1.6 steals and 4.8 rebounds per contest.
“Kate Vollrath was second team and finished her high school career as one of the top players in the conference. She was a tough matchup,” said Resorter head coach Don Kulow.
Anna Vollrath, a 6-0 center, was first in blocked shots with a 2.3 average per game, finished eighth in rebounding at 6.5 per contest and had a 9.4 scoring average. She connected for 47.1 percent from the floor.
“Anna Vollrath was also second team and led the conference in blocks and was near the top in rebounds. She was a presence inside,” Kulow said.
Knepfel, a 5-2 guard, scored at an 8.5 clip and shared the sixth spot in three-pointers in the CLC with 18. She averaged 2.3 assists and 2.3 steals per contest.
“Stephanie amazes me on her ability to get the basket, bounces off players and still finds a way to put the ball in the hole. She has a lot of passion for the game,” Kulow observed.
Ozaukee senior guard Kaitlyn Thill was voted to the first team for an impressive fourth straight season. Seniors Julie Raeder and Amanda Huibregtse of Oostburg are on the top unit for the second consecutive year.
Thill and Raeder are the other unanimous first-team picks. Oostburg, which shared the CLC title with Ozaukee and was the Division 3 state runner-up, and Howards lead the league in first-team players with two apiece.
FINAL CLC STATS
Thill enjoyed an outstanding conference season as she ranked No. 1 in scoring with a 19.1 average and paced the CLC in assists and steals for the second straight year at 5.2 and 6.3 per game, respectively.
Raeder was first in three-point goals with 39, three-point accuracy, an impressive 48.8 percent (39 of 80) and free-throw shooting, 86.9 (53 of 61).
Senior guard Karly Telschow of Oostburg was No. 1 in field-goal shooting with 52.8 percent. Senior center Amanda Dillman of Sheboygan Lutheran was the rebounding champion with a 10.0 average per game.
