Lil’ Rev & Jim Liban perform at PAC April 17
Lil' Rev (Marc Revenson) – an award-winning singer, multi-instrumentalist and storyteller – and worldclass harmonica player Jim Liban will perform an intimate evening of acoustic blues and jazz at the Plymouth Arts Center at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 17.
“Rev is a talented and entertaining performer whose fast-paced shows cover a broad range of musical landscape. His concise, eloquent and witty introductions add to the fun! This man knows music, instruments, history, cultures, and most of all, how to engage and captivate an audience,” said Dave Humphreys, Two Way Street Coffee House director.
Ukulele, mandolin, guitar, harmonica and accordion, he plays them all, but has a particular affection for the ukulele. Lil’ Rev excels at projecting happiness and sharing the beauty of old-time tunes. His repertoire includes blues, American folk, Tin Pan Alley (pop standards of 1920s and ‘30s,) Irish, labor history and songs, waltzes, polkas and novelty numbers such as jug band music, even Prohibition songs like “Lil Brown Jug.”
Since Lil' Rev became a full-time musician in 1994, he has garnered a loyal and enthusiastic following at clubs and coffee houses not only in Milwaukee, but throughout Wisconsin and neighboring states. He was voted Best Folk Singer in Wisconsin – WAMI 2004. He was inducted into the Traditional Old-Time Country Music Hall of Fame in 2003, voted Best Instrumentalist Harmonica, WAMI 2000, best Acoustic Act in Milwaukee 1996-97 and was the 1996 National Blues Harmonica Champion.
Singer, songwriter and stellar blues harmonica player Liban was known throughout the Midwest in the 1970s as the leader of Short Stuff, the innovative Milwaukee-based ensemble that pioneered the blues/rock sound later identified with bands like the Fabulous Thunderbirds and Stevie Ray Vaughn. He has international status as one of the foremost post-war blues harmonica stylists, and many of his original songs have been recorded by national blues artists like Johnny Winter and Lonnie Brooks.
