Roundy’s food tour – in progress this week – includes Plymouth
The Roundy’s Foundation will be focused on feeding families during the week of April 12-16. The foundation’s bi-annual, weeklong food tour gets under way for its spring effort that helps food pantries in the communities served by grocery stores owned by Roundy’s Supermarkets.
Titled Roundy’s Foundation: Focused on Feeding Families,
the tour will visit 13 communities and donate more than $225,000 in food and money to 50 food pantries in five days. Each pantry will receive nearly 3,000 pounds of food valued at approximately $4,000 in addition to a $500 check to purchase perishable food items.
The tour will stop in the following cities: Plymouth, Manitowoc, Green Bay, Menomonee Falls, Sussex, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Racine, Kenosha, Burlington, Muskego, Janesville and Sun Prairie.
“Our food tours help us relieve hunger in the communities our stores serve, but they also give our employees an opportunity to give back,” said Robert Mariano, chairman and CEO of Roundy’s Supermarkets and president of the Roundy’s Foundation. “Our employees live and work in their communities, and nothing is more rewarding to them than being able to help their neighbors.”
As an added benefit to the food pantries, Roundy’s is hosting a weeklong food drive in the communities being helped by the food tour. During April 12-16, barrels will be available in participating stores, and customers can choose to donate individual food items or purchase already assembled bags of food valued at $5 and $10. All food collected during the week will benefit a food pantry in the participating store’s community.
The Roundy’s Foundation food tours have been traveling throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota more than three years. They began in the fall of 2006 by helping 25 food pantries in a week and have grown to reach the 50 food pantries helped on today’s tours. This means the tours touch 100 food pantries each year.
The Roundy’s Foundation gives a special thanks to Kobussen Buses for donating the bus and driver to the tour’s efforts throughout the week.
