Falcons look to improve

The 2010 Sheboygan Falls Falcons golf team exceeded expectations in 2009 and is looking to improve upon last year’s finish.

Falls finished third in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference tourney which gave them a fourth place finish overall in the standings. The Falcons finished runner-up at the regional, losing by three strokes to Kiel and advanced to the sectional.

Falcons coach Phil Marr, now in his ninth season feels that the return of four players and one newcomer could keep this squad at the current level or possibly sneak up on some other teams.

“I was very happy with our finish last season,” said Marr. “We bring back some experience and the team is very excited.”

Marr felt that the team’s attitude is very positive and last summer more kids played in some off-season tournaments that should make them better.

“Good weather has allowed The Bull (Falcons home course) to open early,” Marr remarked. “We have three home matches to start the season.”

Senior Tyler Pate, junior Nick Roelse and sophomores Aaron Krueger and Taylor Kohlhagen are returning from last season. Also senior Kody Meanor could make the team.

Coach is excited to have freshman Chris Bachmann with the Falcons and feels he could start at the no.1 position.

Justin Walsh and Kyle Spielvogel will be missed due to graduation.

Marr feels he has a good group of freshman and sophomores to head up the JV team. Coach felt that Plymouth, Kiel and Kewaskum will be at the top, but would be happy with a fourth place finish or better.
