The annual Kettle Karvers Klub show is here

The Kettle Karvers will be hosting their 20th annual “Artistry in Wood” woodcarving show and competition on Saturday, April, 24.

The show is held in conjunction with the Sheboygan Falls Chamber Main Street ‘Home and Hearth’ Event. The public is welcome from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Sheboygan Falls Municipal Building, 375 Buffalo St.

This year’s show will include more than 40 carvers as well as wood, tool and book vendors. Demonstrations will be held throughout the day and will feature youth carving from 10 a.m. until noon. Children ages 12 and up with a parent or guardian present can join a club member for a hands-on carving project.

This year’s featured carver is John Schumann of Sheboygan. John enjoys carving waterfowl, shorebirds and decoys and has recently developed an interest in carving caricatures. He has been carving for 17 years, has won three blue ribbons in previous years, and earned the club’s ‘Most Improved Carver’ award in 2007.

Chainsaw sculptor Jamie Doeren of Abrams, Wis., will be demonstrating his skills with a chainsaw and selling his works on the grounds of the Municipal Building. Mr. Doeren has been a chainsaw carver and instructor for many years and has taught students from all over the world.

Admission children age 12 and under are admitted free.

The Kettle Karver’s Klub meets at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month in the Plymouth High School cafeteria. Anyone interested in becoming a club member and learning to carve is welcome to attend initially as a guest. Contact Neil Lorenz at 452-7911 if interested.
