Ramp closings set at State 57 and 23

The State 57 on and off ramps from and State 23 in Sheboygan County are being closed for construction, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation northeast region office in Green Bay has announced.

The ramps are closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. for five nights starting Monday this week. They will reopen mornings, including Saturday morning, April 24, and close again Monday night, April 26. They will close again on the same schedule each night during the following week. The ramp closures will end by Saturday, May 1.

The contractor will continue concrete repair on both westbound and eastbound State 23 this week. Culvert pipe maintenance and dowel bar retrofitting will begin in both eastbound and westbound lanes, in addition to work on the State 57 ramps at State 23.

The $4.9 million, 10-mile project — scheduled for completion in July — involves concrete dowel bar retrofit where warranted, concrete diamond grinding, concrete pavement repair, concrete pavement replacement, concrete approach slabs, culvert maintenance, sign removal, and installation of asphaltic shoulders, beam guard upgrades, traffic control, pavement marking sawing existing pavement and incidentals necessary to complete work. This project involves State 67, State 57 and State 32 interchanges.

Traffic is reduced to one lane, in each direction, along State 23 from County P to State 32.

On Interstate 43, work will be completed this week on the bridges in the southbound lanes from County EE to State 42. Work will then begin later this week on the Wilson Lima, County AA, Amsterdam Road and Pebble Beach Road bridges in the I-43 southbound lanes.

Base patching will be conducted on I-43 southbound in the driving lane from County EE to State 42 early in the week. Ramps in the State 23 and I-43 interchange will need to be closed for one night to complete base patching this week. Base patching and inlet adjustment will be completed this week on State 23 from County Y to Taylor Drive, and work on the ramps from State 23 to Taylor Drive.

Asphalt paving will begin on State 23 this week, and on Taylor Drive under State 23. Beam guard work will conclude this week in the northbound lanes of I-43 from State 23 to State 42.

The $16.0 million project on I-43 from the south county line to WIS 42, scheduled for completion July 16, involves bridge deck repair and overlay, asphaltic surface milling, hot mix asphalt pavement, beam guard, concrete base patching, ramp closure gates, law enforcement pads, and all incidentals to complete the project.

I-43 will have one lane closed in the southbound lanes from Pebble Beach Road to Amsterdam Road, and also from County AA to Wilson Lima Road. This closure will remain up for the duration of time required to complete the four bridges in these segments of I-43 southbound. The evening of April 21, the northwest loop, southwest loop and the southwest ramp in the State 23 and I-43 interchange will be closed for base patching from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. April 22. Message boards are being used to inform the public one week in advance. There will be lane closures on State 23 eastbound and westbound the weeks of April 19 and April 26 from County Y to Taylor Drive.
