Sheriff’s Report – April 19
The Howards Grove Fire Department, First Responders and Orange Cross Ambulance were dispatched to the Robert Mosnik residence at 1208 Bell Ave., Howards Grove, at approximately 11 a.m. April 16. Mosnik, 46, was working on his boat in his garage when he noticed smoke coming from under the dash. It appears the smoke was from an electrical fire. The boat sustained severe damage under the dash. Mosnik was transported to a local hospital for possible smoke inhalation.

A grass fire was reported to the Haven Fire Department at 11:15 a.m. April 17. The fire was located on County LS and Rowe Road. The Fire Department remained on the scene for one hour.

The Sheriff’s Department was called by Lakeland Security at 12:25 a.m. April 17. Lakeland Security had found large quantities of alcohol and frozen food behind Bummyshus House in Howards Grove. It appears the items were taken while the Bummyshus House was open for business, without the owner’s knowledge. One person, 23, was charged with receiving stolen property.

An attempted burglary was reported to the Sheriff’s Department at 7 a.m. April 17. Someone had attempted to break into Corbin’s Bar, 512 Madison Ave., Howards Grove. Nothing was taken.

Fire departments from Oostburg, Cedar Grove, Adell, the town of Wilson, and Random Lake were called to a grass fire before 3 p.m. at N1904 Huibregtse Road in the town of Holland, April 18. The fire began when the residents at the Huibregtse Road address were burning items in their burn pit on the southwest corner of their property. Grass was ignited and spread to Pheasant View Nursery, 132 Van Ess Road, Oostburg. The nursery sustained fence and tree damage.

Becky J. Brethouwer, 317 North Commerce, Apt. 3, Cedar Grove, notified authorities that she left her home at 10:30 p.m. and when she returned to her residence, she discovered that video games valued at $200, Xbox games valued at $30 and $20 in currency were missing. Brethouwer stated her house was still locked when she returned home. There were no signs of forced entry.

Anita Muckerheide, 54, W7644 County SS, Adell, was ticketed for failure to yield from a stop sign. On April 18 at approximately 6:36 p.m., Muckerheide was eastbound on County SS. She was stopped at a stop sign at County SS and County S. She proceeded east from the stop sign and collided with Richard Schwarte, 37, who was southbound on County S. George Muckerheide, a passenger in the Muckerheide car, received minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.
