OOSTBURG—The Oostburg Lady Dutch scored two first half goals to edge the Sheboygan Falls Falcons 2-1 in the championship game of the Jamie Veldboom Memorial Soccer Invite Saturday, April 17. The Falcons finished in second place with a 2-1 record.

Oostburg improves to 5-1 overall and Falls dropped to 5-1 overall.

Dutch players Emily TeBeest and Tiffany Stemper scored early in the first half as their two goals stood up despite a late rally by the Falcons.

Late in the second half, a corner kick from senior Hannah Meyer was centered perfectly. Junior Cassie Quirt just missed a header as the Oostburg goalie deflected the ball over the goal post.

A few minutes later, Meyer ripped a penalty kick in the only goal for Falls. The Falcons offensive pressure attacked hard in the closing minutes, missing on two other corner kicks.

Falls made it to the final by shutting out Valders 3-0 and Kewaskum 5-0.

Falcons Meyer, MacKenzie Schell and Ashley Entringer scored goal against Valders. Cassie Hammen had an assist.

Entringer scored a hat trick against Kewaskum with other goals from Abby Debbink and Kelly Jens.

“Oostburg is very good team,” said Falcons coach Brian Mentink. “They pressured us well, but this was a good challenge for us to get better for the season.”

On Thursday, April 15 Falls walloped Two Rivers 13-0 to improve to 2-0 in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference.

The Falcons had three players with two goals each as a total of ten Falcons scored. Entringer, Debbink and Hammen scored two goals each. Falls outshot Two Rivers 27-0.

The Falcons opened the EWC season with a 1-0 shutout over the Plymouth Panthers on Tuesday, April 13.

Entringer scored the only goal, 21 minutes into the first half on an assist by sophomore Allie Danneker.

It was the first win for a Falls team since 2007 over the Panthers as the exhausted Falcons withstood a second half charge.

“This was a big win, but our expectations were higher,” Mentink stated. “Plymouth pursued us hard and it was a very physical game.”

“I felt we didn’t play up to our potential,” said Falcons captain Meyer. “We haven’t had much practice together and still have a lot to work on.”

Plymouth and Falls took three shots each on goal.
