Panthers’ Kiela repeats as County Golf champ

SHEBOYGAN FALLS – Junior Geno Kiela of Plymouth successfully defended his medalist title in the Sheboygan County Boys Golf Tournament here Saturday afternoon.

Kiela carded a 5-over-par 77 at The Bull at Pinehurst Farms and was the only player to break 80 for 18 holes. He shot a 40 on the front nine and a 1-over-par 37 on the back nine.

Nic Vrubley of Cedar Grove-Belgium was the runner-up medalist with an 80.

PHS finished runner-up for the second straight year with 364. Sheboygan Falls captured first place with 353 and was led by Aaron Krueger with an 84 and Chris Bachmann, 86.

The Plymouth Panthers’ other low golfers were Jon Criter with an 89, Ryan Klecka, 97 and Marcus Gamoke, 101.

The Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Resorters earned third with 371 – their best finish ever in the county tourney. Elkhart was paced by Myles Galloway’s 91. Also scoring for the Resorters were Kyle Rentmeester with a 92 and Tom Pritzl and Oliver Sadiq with 94s.

Howards Grove tied for last with Kohler at 448. The Howards Tigers’ low players were Ty Dobson with a 99; Tom Hanson, 102; Zach Steuven, 123 and Matt Brickner, 124.

“Geno played outstanding. It‘s a great accomplishment to win two county titles in a row,” said Panther head coach Dan Knaus.

“The conditions were very difficult. It’s a tough course and was a very windy day. Jon played well and finished ninth overall.

“We just struggled to get two more scores in the low 90s, otherwise we could have won the meet.

“We are still looking for someone to step up and provide us with some consistency at the bottom of the lineup. When we get that, we will be a very solid team,” Knaus said.

“I was extremely pleased with how we golfed,” said Resorter head coach Bart Larson.

“Again, the conditions were tough but the players battled through it. The young guys are stepping up.

Ollie Sadiq had his best 18-hole round of the year as well as Kyle Rentmeester.

“I hope we can build on that performance and keep improving. Myles had our best score but he golfed much better than his score indicated which is a good sign for future matches. He is doing a great job,” Larson said.

“Tommy Pritzl is playing consistent as well.”
