Lane, ramp closures continue on State 23
Drivers will continue to experience one-lane traffic and overnight ramp closures this week on State 23 between Sheboygan Falls and Plymouth, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation regional office in Green Bay.
The contractor will continue concrete repair, concrete pavement replacement, dowel bar retrofitting and diamond grinding work on the State 67 ramps at State 23 and on northbound State 67 between the State 23 ramps. The contractor will continue culvert pipe maintenance, dowel bar retrofitting and diamond grinding in both the eastbound and westbound lanes of State 23. The contractor will begin to perform dowel bar retrofitting, and diamond grinding on the State 57 ramps at State 23.
Traffic is reduced to one lane in each direction along State 23 from County P to State 32. The State 57 ramps will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. every night through Friday. The ramps will reopen Saturday morning, May 8 and close again Monday night, May 10. They will reopen by Saturday, May 15. The State 67 ramps and northbound State 67 between the State 23 ramps will be closed to through traffic until Sunday, May 9.
The 10-mile, $4.9 million project, scheduled for completion in July, involves concrete dowel bar retrofit where warranted, concrete diamond grinding, concrete pavement repair, concrete pavement replacement, concrete approach slabs, culvert maintenance, sign removal and installation asphaltic shoulders, beam guard upgrades, traffic control, pavement marking sawing existing pavement and incidentals necessary to complete work.
Work continues this week on Interstate 43 on the bridges in the southbound lanes at Wilson Lima Road, County AA, Amsterdam Road and Pebble Beach Road. Asphalt paving and shouldering in the State 23 and I-43 interchange will be completed following the anticipated closure dates and times listed below.
I-43 has one lane closed in the southbound lanes from Wilson Lima Road to County AA and from Amsterdam Road to Pebble Beach Road for the bridgework. This closure will remain up for the duration of time required to complete the four bridges in these two segments of I-43 southbound.
For all ramp closures, changeable message boards are being utilized to inform the motoring public in advance when work will begin. They will be posted three days prior to the closure of the ramps.
The following is the current anticipated schedule of lane closures and ramp closures in the I-43 and State 23 interchange. All work is weather dependant (closures begin at 6 p.m. and end at 6 a.m.): May 3-4 — State 23 and I-43 northeast and south east ramp closure; May 3-4 — I-43 northbound collector distributor closure; May 4-5 — State 23 and I-43 northeast and southeast ramp closure; May 4-5 — I-43 northbound collector distributor closure; May 5-6 — State 23 and I-43 northwest and southwest ramp closure; May 6-7 — State 23 and I-43 northwest and southwest ramp closure; May 7-8 — I-43 southbound collector distributor closure; May 10-11 — State 23 and I-43 northwest and southwest loop closure; and May 11-12 — State 23 and I-43 northeast and southeast loop closure.
The $16 million project on I-43 from the south county line to State 42, scheduled for completion July 16, involves bridge deck repair and overlay, asphaltic surface milling, hot mix asphalt pavement, beam guard, concrete base patching, ramp closure gates, law enforcement pads, and all incidentals to complete the project.
