PHS Amph-Rats and Jolly Pranksters team up in `Double Bill’ May 10
The Plymouth High School Amph-Rats Acting Company and the PHS Jolly Pranksters Comedy Team will perform in a “Double Bill” show at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, in the PHS Amphitheatre.
During the first half of the show, the PHS Amph-Rats (the advanced acting students) will perform a series of scripted and original scenes. The second half of the show will feature a series of comic improvisation games played by the PHS Jolly Pranksters Comedy Team.
The May 10 performance consists of unique comedic material, including a short rendition of how Pandora got her box; actors speaking Japanese, German, Spanish and English; and a round of “Speed Dating” encounters.
The Drama II class was added to the PHS curriculum in 2006 to offer students an opportunity to further explore theatre performance. As a result, the PHS Amph-Rats Acting Company was founded. This year’s group also includes a student who is exploring theatre technology. As part of the curriculum, the students prepare and present at least two performances for the public during the semester.
The 2010 Amph-Rats Acting Company members are Luis Aguirre, Leah Glassford, Maki Hasebe, Mitchell Krahn, Luke Murray, Lena Mylin, Madeline Nesemann, Forrest Payne, Brock Reichardt, Kelly Reineke, Amanda Rizzi, and theatre tech independent study student Colby Pearce.
After the Amph-Rats performance, the 2009-10 Jolly Pranksters Comedy Team will play a series of improvisational comedy games. This year’s team members are seniors, Samantha DeVries, Leah Glassford, Luke Murray, Devon Riederer, Cody Wisman; junior, Marissa Murphy; and sophomores, Christopher Gideon, and Jesse Meyer (team captain).
Both the Amph-Rats and the Jolly Pranksters will pair up again for the last time this performance season Tuesday, June 1, also at 7:30 p.m. in the PHS Amphitheatre. During this show, the Amph-Rats will present a “Final Exam Performance” followed by the last round of comic improvisation games that the 2009-10 Jolly Pranksters team will play together.
Please consider coming to watch the students’ performance work both May and June 1. As always, admission is absolutely free. For more information, contact PHS English and drama teacher Janet DeJean Newton at (920) 893-6911, ext. 1530.
