Sheboygan chamber seeks tourism volunteers
The Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce has announced the addition of several new volunteer and internship opportunities to assist with visitor information in the city of Sheboygan.
The initiative, dubbed “Tourism Troops for Sheboygan,” promises to offer a big smile and an offer of help for visitors and residents to make it as easy as possible for everyone to experience the wealth of attractions, shopping and hospitality offered in the city and throughout the county. The chamber hopes to attract retirees and students for the pilot program, which is scheduled to start in May and conclude in September.
“We plan to deploy a colorful, enthusiastic group of people to help us in the chamber’s Visitor Center and to be out on the streets asking questions and providing information,” says Betsy Alles, executive director of the chamber. “Our volunteers and interns will wear bright shirts and bright smiles to reflect Sheboygan’s reputation for hospitality.”
For college students the experience may be tied to an internship if their college allows. Two important aspects to the program — marketing research and publicity — may tie closely with college curriculum in business, marketing or hospitality. “We promise to make this a valuable experience for students hoping to add to their resumes,” Alles says.
Volunteers and interns will be asked to commit a minimum of 16 hours per week between Thursdays and Sundays. Anyone interested should email or deliver a brief resume and a few paragraphs about why they would like to participate. E-mail Hackbarth@sheboygan.org.
For those who think they might not know enough about the area, a full day orientation session will provide a guided glimpse of the city and county attractions, events and places.”
