Falls Boys & Girls Club plans summer events
by Anne Kelly Boys & Girls Club director
Summer is just around the corner. You can feel it in the warm days, see it in the shorts and flip flops members of the Sheboygan Falls Boys & Girls Club are starting to wear and hear it when the kids tell us they are looking forward to the end of the school year.
So as the grass greens, and the sun shines, the staff in Sheboygan Falls has started planning a summer full of activities to engage and excite members and fill their days.
A big focus this summer is the idea of getting out and about with the members. Fresh air and exercise are the key components we are looking to integrate into our days this summer.
To that end, we have planned daily activities that will take advantage of the resources available right here in Sheboygan Falls.
The first local resource we plan on utilizing is the Sheboygan Falls Public Library. The library hosts a summer reading program that encourages reading and features numerous speakers and workshops that support the summer theme, “Dive into the summer fun!”
We will be walking members to the library each week to participate in the activities and give them time to pick out books and log them for credit with the library staff.
The city of Sheboygan Falls has several wonderful parks, including River Park, where we plan on walking and playing once a week, weather permitting.
Our Walking Club has planned one of their routes through beautiful Settlers Park so we can enjoy nature and exercise.
Our teen club, The Club at Three-9-TEEN, boasts a huge backyard, begging for play dates.
Twice a week we will be walking members to the teen club to play assorted outside games. We will organize kick ball, croquet, bocce ball, volleyball and tag competitions.
Our hope is to someday be able to install a basketball court in the teen club yard for hours of “hooping it up” fun.
Members will tend their own Boys & Girls Club garden located in a quiet corner of the teen club yard. This is our first attempt at gardening and hopefully we can boast of a Boys & Girls Club mini-Farmers Market in the fall.
Summer is a time of excitement, fresh air and days spent with friends.
As a staff, we are looking forward to providing all that and more for our fabulous members, who will be keeping us company this summer.
