County Conservation fund-raiser May 13

The Sheboygan County Conservation Association anticipates a large turnout for its 28th Annual Fundraising Banquet Thursday at the Rangeline Inn in Kohler.
Over $750,000 has been raised through these banquets. Among the projects that the funds have been used for are the pheasant program, including food plots, Free Fishing Day, land acquisition for public use, youth outdoor education and a scholarship program.
“We’re looking for a real good turnout. It’s a great event. It’s our biggest fund-raiser,” said Dan Renzelman, habitat chairman and publicity person for the SCCA.
“We’re hoping to have more than 300 at the banquet.”
The SCCA works with area farmers and landowners to increase habitat for pheasants, deer, turkeys and other small game. Renzelman noted that the association is raising 2,700 pheasant chicks this year and will release about 2,200 of them at the appropriate age on new habitat lands in the county.
All 29 clubs in the SCCA are involved in the organization’s projects. Members put a lot of time and effort into improving fish habitat on all lakes in the county.
A major project of the SCCA has been the protection of one of the last pristine lakes in the county in Gerber Lake. The original 108-acre parcel has two large lakes with a vast diversity of habitat. The SCCA donated over $100,000 towards the purchase price and for improvements, including restoring former prairie land back to its original state.
The dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are still available for the banquet. For more information, contact Dave Taylor at 565-2664 or dtaylor90@wi.rr.com, or Mary Jo Robinson, 459-8428 or mjgbpackers@charter.net.
