Salvation Army offers stop smoking class
The Salvation Army is starting a new series of classes to help low income individuals stop smoking at no cost. The series runs on May 17, 20, 24, and 27 at 1:30 p.m. at The Salvation Army, 710 Pennsylvania Ave., Sheboygan.
Using the “Freedom from Smoking” model, trained instructors teach individuals who are interested in quitting smoking. The classes take a holistic approach toward smoking dependency. The quitters will learn about the hazards of smoking, be provided with group support, and offered smoking cessation products at no cost to the participants. The program is open to all persons without medical insurance or on medical assistance. It is not available to persons with private health insurance.
This project is made possible with funding from the Wisconsin Tobacco Prevention and Control Program through the Wisconsin Tobacco Prevention and Poverty Network, and it is part of The Salvation Army’s ongoing effort to promote a healthy community. “We are fortunate to be able to offer this program to anyone interested in being smoke free,” said Pam Sandee, clinic coordinator of The Salvation Army Red Shield Free Clinic.
On July 5, Wisconsin goes smoke free in all restaurants, taverns and virtually all work places in Wisconsin, and this is an opportune time to kick the habit, save money and live healthier.
