DONALD P. “CHIEF” HENNINGS

Donald P. Hennings, age 71, of 210 Crestwood Drive, Elkhart Lake, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 9, 2010, at Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 30, 1938 in Sheboygan, son of the late Lester and Gladys Nauth Hennings. He attended Rhine Center Grade School and was a 1956 graduate of Kiel High School.

Don was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a military policeman. On Jan. 8, 1963, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Biese at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Charlestown.

Don was employed as a supervisor for Tecumseh Products in New Holstein for 42 years until his retirement.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Don had a great love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and also enjoyed playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Elkhart Lake; three daughters: Kathleen (Thomas) Conner of Hershey, Pa.; Karen Hennings and fiancé, Gene Ohrmund, of Plymouth; and Sherri (Rodney) Roth of Chetek, Wis.; six grandchildren, Jessica and Ashley Conner, Alexis Hardin, Hannah, Addy and Ruger Roth; sisters-in-law and brothers-in- law, James Allinger, Martin (Rogene) Biese, Eleanor Gebhart, Ken (Betty) Biese, Clarence (Mary Jane) Biese, Floyd (Bernice) Biese, Caroline (Clarence) Schneider and Ruth Biese. He is further survived by other relatives and many friends.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Carol Allinger, and brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law. Funeral services for Donald will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 13, at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home, 815 Sixth St., Kiel.

Cremation will follow the services and burial will take place in the Kiel City Cemetery.

Visitation was held at the funeral home Wednesday, May 12, until 8 p.m. Family and friends may call Thursday at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Kiel VFW Post #6707 will be conducting memorial services at the funeral home.
