Falcons drop three in EWC action

The Sheboygan Falls Falcons boys tennis team dropped its third straight match, losing to Manitowoc Roncalli 4-3 in Eastern Wisconsin Conference competition Thursday, May 6.

With the loss, Falls fell to 4-2 in the EWC (5-3 overall).

The Falcons had wins at No. 3 and No. 4 singles from Baylor Bachmann and Dustin Schueffner, while the No. 3 doubles team of David Bimmel and Mitch Thimmig also came through with a victory.

The Plymouth Panthers gave Falls its first EWC loss of the season last week by notching a 5-2 victory over the Falcons to remain in first place.

The Falcons only two wins were from Schueffner in No. 4 singles and the No. 3 doubles team of Bimmel and Thimmig.

“Even though we lost three matches last week, I thought we hung in there against Plymouth and Roncalli,” said Falcons coach Leigh Cherveny. “The loss to St. Lawrence was unexpected. We missed some opportunities.”

Despite the two losses, the Falcons trail Plymouth by two wins overall. Cherveny gave special mention to the play of David Bimmel and his partners Doug Arpke and Thimmig. The trio of players remains undefeated this season.

The rained out Watertown Invite will be made up Friday, May 14.
