Sheboygan Fire Department holds open house and safety fair

National Emergency Medical Services Week is being observed May 16-22. To celebrate the week, on Saturday, May 22, the Sheboygan Fire Department will be hosting an Open House and Safety Fair. The Open House will be held at Fire Station #3 located at 1326 North 25th St. in Sheboygan. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will end at 3 p.m.

The event will give the public an opportunity to learn about the Emergency Medical System by viewing displays related to EMS and how the EMS system works. The local chapter of the American Red Cross will be on hand to present a program about hands only CPR and public access defibrillation as well as the use of Automatic External Defibrillators. These presentations are scheduled for 10 a.m., 12 noon, and 2 p.m. Following each of the presentations, personnel from the Sheboygan Fire Department will conduct a simulated EMS response to help the public better understand what occurs when a call for assistance is received.

Representatives from Wolf Cycle in Sheboygan and the Sheboygan Police Department will be available to conduct safety checks for bicycles and to provide information on bicycle licensing in the City of Sheboygan. Representatives from St. Nicholas Hospital will be available to provide information on proper fitting and wearing of bicycle helmets and will have helmets available to purchase.

Water safety information will also be made available from the City of Sheboygan Water Safety Task force and the United States Coast Guard. This will include flyers on general water safety, rip currents, notification and rescue equipment located along the lakefront for emergency use, as well as other helpful items to keep you and your family safe around the water this summer.

The public is invited to the Open House, to speak to your local emergency response professionals about their role in the community, and to gather some helpful information about your own safety as well.
