PLYMOUTH – During the May 18 School Board meeting, Superintendent Clark Reinke provided an update, during the May 18 School Board meeting, about district’s proposal for “Kids Above the Average” program funds.
Following his presentation, School Board members voted unanimously on the proposal. Members of the Plymouth Education Foundation must now approve the proposal.
In 2007, Acuity donated $300,000 to the school district for naming rights of the auditorium, now the Acuity Auditorium, at Plymouth High School.
“The decision was to place the $300,000 into a fund, with the interest to be used to meet the needs of students outside the average – the struggling and the gifted,” Reinke said.
The Plymouth School District would like to use the Kids Outside the Average funds for the following three purposes:
.To continue to develop Problem Based Learning (PBLs) for students in the gifted-and-talented program, so that they can experience intense, real-life learning opportunities that will challenge their cognitive and collaborative skills.
.To provide resources to the Pegasus After-School Program to help promote leaning experiences for students from combined schools, so that these students have an opportunity to interact and socialize with different students throughout the district.
.To provide an online vocabulary competition for students in third through fifth grades. This competition incorporates many of the underlying premises of the Miller’s Analogy Exam. It incorporates higher-level thinking skills with vocabulary development and the cognitive processes of relationship and associate.
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Carrie Dassow expressed her gratitude to the parents who volunteer to assist with the Pegasus After School program.
