TYA’s `Cool Suit’ registration in progress

Shoo bop do wop! It’s time to register for Theater For Young Audiences’ touring summer musical “Cool Suit,” a rock ‘n’ roll “Emperor’s New Clothes.”

Co-stage directors Stephanie Gibson and Sammy Van Wyk together with music director Connor Giles seek a singing and dancing cast of 24 adults, teens, and children in grade three and up for this funny fairy tale with a few modern twists.

The choreography team is composed of Zia Harriott, Samantha Broghammer and Tadeo Maier. The set designer is Jon Cook. Hilary Mayer heads the costume team with Sara Bartol and Tadeo Maier.

Roles are available for the clothes-horse Emperor, his mommy the Empress, along with royal ministers, groupies, rebels, tailors, and townsfolk who sing and dance to rap and rock tunes such as “Cool Suit,” “Check it Out,” “Think For Yourself” and more.

Registrants and parents must attend a general meeting Tuesday, June 15 or Wednesday, June 16, from 6- 7:30 p.m. at the Sheboygan Masonic Mansion, 411 St. Clair Ave. At this orientation, all will learn about the production requirements, and audition for the team of stage directors, music director, and choreographers. Parents will meet from 6-6:20 p.m. and at 7:15 p.m.

Rehearsals will be held Monday-Thursday from 6-8:30 p.m. July 19-Aug. 4 at the University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan. Due to the short rehearsal period, participants may be permitted one planned absence. If the directors cannot accommodate the absence, the registrant will be released.

Parents of the youth will assist with costumes, props, set assembly, touring, and strike.

Registration is handled on a first-come, first-served basis. All registrants will be cast in the musical. Registration will close when all the slots are filled. Latecomers will be placed on a waiting list. Families are encouraged to register together. There is a minimal participation fee.

To register, e-mail registrant’s name, birth date, phone number, and address to tyasheb@charterinter net.com. Youth must include grade for fall 2010 and a parent’s name.

Performances will be given at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at Pigeon River School; Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the Plymouth Arts Center; Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Longfellow School; and Thursday, Aug. 12, at the Cedar Grove Public Library.

Persons with questions may contact artistic director Deb Sabol-Williams at tyasheb@charterin ternet.com.
