HELEN M. BERGER

Helen M. Berger, 87 of Sheboygan Falls passed away on Tuesday May 25, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Sheboygan.

Helen was born on March 6, 1923 in Sheboygan Falls. Her parents were the late Tobias Keippel and Theresia Arthofer.

She was baptized at St. Paul by the Rev. Biehusen and confirmed in German at St. Paul, having also attended the Lutheran Parochial School from Grades 1-7. Helen graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1941.

On Aug. 19, 1944, she and Charles Berger were married at St. Paul by the late Rev. Edward Albertin. They had six children: Douglas (Ruth) Berger of Sheboygan Falls, Dennis Berger, deceased Nov. 7, 1953, at the age of 6, Gregory (Kathy) Berger of Sheboygan, Steven Berger of Sheboygan Falls, Christine (John) Huibregtse of Woodruff and Charlene Berger of Sheboygan Falls.

Helen was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls, and a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary and its Quilting Bee. Helen enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing and reading.

Helen has been retired since 1990 from Plastics Engineering Co. where she was employed as a secretary for 24 years. Since graduation she worked in the offices of Curt Joa, Hayseen, and before Plastics she sold cosmetics – Beauty Counselor – and had worked up a clientele of 300 in the Sheboygan County area.

Helen was affiliated with the National Secretaries Association; past president of the Band Parents; and served on the advisory board for Secretarial Science at Lakeshore Technical College for three years.

During World War II, she served as a civilian under Civil Service in the U.S. Army Signal Corps at the Pentagon.

Survivors include her husband Charles; two daughters, Christine (John) Huibregtse, Charlene Berger; three sons, Douglas (Ruth), Gregory (Kathy), Steven Berger; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a twin sister, Hilda Gutoski of Sheboygan Falls; a sister Ruth Voyt of Minocqua. Helen is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Helen was also preceded in death by one son, Dennis; one sister, Lydia Wolf; one brother, John Keippel; and daughter-in-law, Edy Berger.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, May 29, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls with Rev. Mark Janzen officiating. Interment will be in Sheboygan Falls Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Helen’s name for Parkinson’s and St. Paul Lutheran Church.
