National Lutheran Schools Tournament
This is a summary of our road to the National Lutheran Schools Tournament
This was a season we started with high expectation and we end with a trip to the National Lutheran School Tournament. We start the season with eleven straight wins. We started the season by winning the Plymouth Invitational by defeating Holy Family Sheboygan 24-8. We followed that tournament with a championship win in the Sherman Center Tournament defeating Port Washington Catholic 32-16.
Our first lost of the season came in the semi finals of the CCA tournament to a very good Farnsworth team in overtime 26-28. We went on to finish third. After the CCA tournament we won our next thirteen finishing undefeated in conference 7-0 and winning the Bethlehem tournament by defeating Holy Family Sheboygan 35-18.
Our application to the state Lutheran School tournament was accepted and we won our first two games to get the semi finals. In the semi finals we hit a tough run of games that we weren’t as physical as the other teams and lost the last two games to finish with a fourth place finish.
We applied for the National Lutheran School Tournament, but with a fourth place we did not expect to get invited. Much to our surprise we did get a call telling us we had been accepted. At that point we made a conscious effort to make sure we played at a much higher level. The girl at in the hard work needed and it paid off. We did lose our first round game, to the team that would go on to become national champs, St Paul’s from Orange California. The next day we started the day of with a win against Calvary Indiana 38-13 not allowing them any good looks at the basket. Next we played L.I.S. from Iowa. This was the best game we played all year shooting lights out and winning the game 47- 29. Our third game of the day we played Minnesota’s state Champ St. John’s. We got out to an early lead 8-0 but tired and would lose on a last second shot 15-16.
We finished the season with a 26-5 overall record, 7-0 in league. We won the Plymouth Invitational, Sherman Center Tournament and Bethlehem Tournament. We also had a third place finish in the CCA tournament and fourth place finish in the state tournament. The thing that we are most proud of is that fact that we finished in the top sixteen in the National Tournament.
