ROYCE J. STEPHANIE

Royce J. Stephanie, age 76, of 415 E. Main St. in Plymouth, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon at Aurora Memorial Medical Center in Sheboygan where he had been a patient one day.

He was born Dec 16, 1933 in Pardeeville Wis., a son of the late Richard and Hilda (Sable) Stephanie. He attended Payne School in the town of Mitchell.

Royce served in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Germany and the U.S. Army Reserve.

On April 15, 1972 he married Elizabeth Fermanich, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mattoon Wis. The couple has lived in Plymouth all their married life.

He had been employed at Borden Foods in Plymouth until 1961 when he went into partnership with his brother Ron operating Hub City Interiors in Plymouth. They also co owned the Double R Resort on White Potato Lake until 1978.

He is a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. He was also a member of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce.

Royce enjoyed the outdoors hunting and snowmobiling as well as working in his gardens and bowled in numerous leagues and sponsored several teams. Royce also enjoyed traveling with family and friends and spending time at their cabin in Crivitz and his trips to Las Vegas. He also played horseshoes and cribbage.

Royce will be remembered as a hard working and social person with a great sense of humor. His motto was “Work Hard, Play Hard.”

He was also a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather, sharing in the lives as much as he could.

Survivors include his wife Betty; one daughter, Wendy Stephanie of Plymouth; four sons, Curt (Jen), Ryan (Lisa) and Rodney, all of Plymouth, and Kevin of Appleton; four grandchildren, Shawn Grothe-Stephanie, Hayley and Brianna Stephanie and Margo Howard; two sisters, Rita Schuh of Plymouth and Verena (Lance) Nadler of Chilton; one brother-in-law, Edwin Deheck of Cedar Grove; one sister-in-law, Sonia Stephanie of Crivitz; 13 wonderful brothers- and sisters-in-law and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins as well as his loving dog, Dusty.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion Kaiser and Theresa Deheck; two brothers, Aloysius and Ronald; and his K9 companion, Max.

A mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday June 1 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. The Very Rev. Dennis Van Beek was the celebrant. Cremation took place following the service with Inurnment in Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.

Military honors were conducted at the church by Ladwig –Zinkgraf American Legion Post. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Royce’s name. Online condolences may be sent to www.wittkoppschneider.com.
