CAMPBELLSPORT – The Sheboygan Falls Falcons girls soccer team got back in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference title chase, after gaining three shutout wins over Campbellsport 3-0 on Thursday, May 27, Two Rivers 8-0 last week Tuesday and Waupun 10-0 Monday.

Last week Campbellsport upset Plymouth 2-1 in overtime to give Falls a chance for the EWC title, with one game left to play in the conference season.

The Falcons improved to 11-2 in the EWC (16-3-1 overall) and was scheduled to play New Holstein 9- 1-3 in the EWC title Tuesday, June 1. Falls could win the EWC championship outright with a win.

“We were just shocked when we heard Plymouth lost to Campbellsport,” said Falcons captain Hannah Meyer.

The Falcons weren’t too thankful to Campbellsport later in the week, as they recorded their 13th shutout of the season over the Cougars Thursday, May 27.

Cassie Quirt, Meyer and Chelsea Powers scored goals for Falls, while Andrea Rusch and Kelly Jens dished out assists.

Falcons coach Brian Mentink credited the defense for slowing down the hard-charging Cougars.

Falls handled the Two Rivers Purple Raiders easily, with Quirt leading the scoring with two goals.

MacKenzie Schnell, Rusch, Abby Debbink, Marie Kettler, Cassie Hammen and Erika Krueger scored the other goals for the Falcons.

Ashley Entringer, Powers and Rusch scored two goals each, as the Falcons pounded the Waupun Warriors 10-0 in a rule-shortened game.

Meyer, Debbink, Hammen and Krueger had one goal each. Rusch also led the team with three assists. Debbink had two and Meyer made one.

No. 2 seeded Falls will play No. 7 seed Waupun at home Thursday, June 3, at 4:30 p.m. in the first round of the WIAA Division 2 girls soccer regional playoffs.
