CLARENCE NYSSE

Clarence Nysse, age 98, formerly of 956 Dooley Road, Plymouth, Wis., passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 1, 2010, at Plymouth Care Center where he had been a resident for the past five years.

He was born July 9, 1911, in the town of Wilson, Wis., a son of the late Martin and Alydia Grievink Nysse. He attended Hillcrest Grade School in the town of Wilson.

On April 15, 1944, he married Elvira M. Schnuell of New Holstein, Wis. The marriage took place at the home of Elvira’s parents.

The couple made farming his career. He started farming the first nine years on a farm in rural Kiel. In 1953 he moved to a farm in rural Sheboygan Falls. He remained on that farm until retiring in 1975. They moved to Plymouth and remained there until 2005 when his health forced him to move to the Plymouth Care Center.

In retirement, Clarence enjoyed small game hunting, woodworking, gardening and day trips to many different places.

He was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Waldo, where he served as trustee and treasurer.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Elvira of Plymouth; four sons: Rev. Dr. Richard (Lynn) Nysse of Shoreview, Minn.; Kenneth (Carol) Nysse of rural Sheboygan Falls; Roger (Barb) Nysse of rural Plymouth and Merlin (Jill) Nysse of Rochester, Minn.; one daughter, Margaret (Ross) Bub of Plymouth; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert (Lucille) Nysse of rural Sheboygan Falls; two sisters, Dorothy Wessel of Sheboygan and Angeline Van Treeck of rural Sheboygan Falls; and one sisterin law, Phyllis Schnuell of Chilton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Matthew, Theodore, Lawrence, Edward and Louis; two sisters, Elsie Van Sluys and Martha Van Ess; sisters-in-law, Elnora Nysse and Marie Nysse; brothers-in-law, John Van Sluys, Leroy Wessel, John Van Ess, Jacob Van Treeck and Wilbur Schnuell; and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Nysse.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth. The Rev. Frederick Jabs, pastor of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Waldo, will officiate. Burial will be in Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Clarence’s name for St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Waldo.
