VALERIA A. GOERKE

Valeria A. Goerke, age 98, of Plymouth, formerly of Cleveland, died peacefully Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Plymouth Care Center.

She was born May 13, 1912 in Milwaukee, daughter of the late John and Laura (Duessing) Goerke. Valeria attended Red Arrow Grade School in Cleveland and also Sheboygan Business College.

She worked for 34 years as a U.S. postal clerk in Cleveland retiring in 1976. She was an honorary member of the National Association of Federal Employees.

She was a member of St. John-St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cleveland.

Valeria enjoyed traveling, sewing, crafting, crossword puzzles, and spending time with her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include one daughter, Dorene Rosenthal of Plymouth; a grandson, Ryan (Mary) Rosenthal of Howards Grove; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Nathaniel Rosenthal of Howards Grove; two nephews, Rodney Prinsen of Sheboygan and Du Wayne (Judy) Prinsen of Fuquay-Varina, N.C.

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rueben Rosenthal, and a sister and brother-in-law, Sylvia (Harvey) Prinsen.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at the Wittkopp-Schneider Funeral Home in Plymouth with the Rev. David Endorf, pastor of St. John-St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow on Friday morning in the St. Johannes Cemetery in Cleveland.
