LA CROSSE – Sheboygan Falls Falcons junior Brooke Buehler broke her own school record in the long jump to capture a silver medal at the WIAA Division 2 State Track and Field Championships Friday, June 4, at Memorial Stadium on the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse campus.
Buehler’s second-place jump of 18-feet and one-quarter inch, bettered the old mark of 17-5.75 that she set at the recent Eastern Wisconsin Conference Meet.
“Buehler is just a remarkable athlete,” said Falcon girls track coach Linda Goedert. “It’s just a blessing to have her represent Sheboygan Falls.”
In the preliminaries, Buehler missed on her first jump, but recovered well to put together two good jumps and qualify for third place.
Buehler then also missed on her second jump in the finals. With one jump to go, she hit her best-ever jump, beating last year’s defending Division 2 long jump state champ, to post an impressive state runner-up showing.
“Most athletes don’t have the mental strength to come back the way Brooke did,” remarked Goedert. ”I was so happy for her. I had goose bumps.”
