Falcons sweep Purple Raiders

The Sheboygan Falls Falcons baseball team swept the Two Rivers Purple Raiders 5-2 and 11-1 in an Eastern Wisconsin Conference doubleheader Thursday, June 3, in Sheboygan Falls.
With the two victories, Falls improved its record to 2-1 in the EWC (3-6 overall).
The Falcons rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning in the first game. After Falls loaded the bases on walks, sophomore Cole Heili smashed a bases clearing double to highlight the five-run sixth.
Junior pitcher Russell Preder picked up his first win of the season, striking out four batters in the process.
Sophomore Bobby Musil scored two runs with three runs batted in, while senior Adam Lorenz hit a double with two RBI to lead the Falcons to an 11-1 five inning run-rule victory in the second game.
Junior Devin Christenson pitched a complete game for his first win of the season. Christenson allowed four hits and one run, while walking three.
Musil stole home in the first inning, had a sacrifice fly RBI and scored on senior Andrew Endsley’s double in the second and. He also hit a two RBI single in a four-run fifth inning.
Freshman Ryan Halverson went 2-for-2, with a double. Senior Lewis Halverson and Zach Van Engen both scored two runs apiece.
“The comeback in the first game was what we needed,” said Falcons coach Todd Struve. “The hitting came around in the second. We had good pitching both games and overall we started playing better.”
Falls dropped its EWC opener 3-1 to the Plymouth Panthers Tuesday, June 1, at Plymouth.
Plymouth scored three runs early and had a strong pitching performance from Trevor Thiel, with five strikeouts in five innings. Greg Rhude pitched two innings for the save.
Endsley hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning for the Falcons only run.
Heili pitched a solid, complete game, but took the loss. Heili allowed two earned runs on seven hits, with three walks and a hit batter to go along with five strikeouts. Endsley and Lorenz led the Falcons with two hits apiece.
