RANDOM LAKE – As the NASCAR rigs entered the Times Printing parking lot in Random Lake Wednesday afternoon, racecar enthusiasts were given their first chance to get an early view of the trucks and cars that participated in the inaugural Bucyrus 200 at Road America in Elkhart Lake Saturday.
About 25 NASCAR truck haulers were on display for fans to enter and get an up-close view of the Nationwide Series race cars. Truck drivers posed for pictures and handed out promotion cards about the related drivers and their sponsors.
Road America officials asked to have the trucks staged in the parking lot before they would move onto Elkhart Lake for the weekend. An area fire department held a benefit brat fry.
After the event was over, residents and fans lined up along State 57 to see the trucks journey towards Road America. Local establishments like Kvindlogs and Chissy’s in Waldo supported many onlookers.
Then as the parade of haulers entered the Plymouth area, more Nascar supporters gave a cheering applause from restaurant and hotel parking lots. Truck drivers honked their horns and large crowds responded.
This was the start to NASCAR Nationwide Series first-ever trip to Road America and Sheboygan County came out with thunderous welcome.
