MARJORIE JESSIE (UBBELOHDE) LAFOUNTAIN

Marjorie Jessie (Ubbelohde) LaFountain, 89, passed away peacefully Monday, June 21, 2010 at McGraw Hospice, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. She was surrounded by her children. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend to many.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her loving husband and friend, Thurston “Thursty” LaFountain; her parents, Frank and Jessie Ubbelohde; her brothers, Willard, Donald and David Ubbelohde; and her sisters, Ruth Dean, Jeanette Wick and Ethel Holbrook.

Left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Rick LaFountain and Barbara LaFountain; her daughter, Patricia LaFountain; her sister, Marilyn (Glendale) DeBruine; many nieces and nephews and many friends.

Marjorie was born and raised on Spruce Lawn Farm in Plymouth, Wis., on June 29, 1920. The farm has been in the Ubbelohde family since her grandfather George started it in the 1880s and is still a family-run dairy farm. She went to grade school in a oneroom schoolhouse near the farm. She graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School.

Shortly after the end of the war, she met the love of her life, Thursty, and was married Feb. 1, 1947. She was proud to be a housewife and mother to her two children. She moved to Sarasota in the late 1940s. She also lived in Fort Meyers, Miami, Memphis, Jacksonville, Omaha, Atlanta, and retired in Wildwood, Fla., where they lived for 20 years. She and Thursty moved to Jacksonville in 2003 to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law.

Marjorie was the type of person whom other people loved to be around. She never had an unkind word about anybody and treated everyone as a friend. She loved to bake. Her Christmas Cookies, candy, and delicious desserts will be missed. She was cherished by many of her nieces and nephews and scores of people she met through the years.

Marjorie will be remembered and missed by all that knew her.
