Fireworks on track for EL

ELKHART LAKE — The fireworks are a go and the fundraising for them is well past the halfway point.

Village President Alan Rudnick told the Village Board at their June 21 meeting that more than $8,400 had been raised to that point toward the $13,000 cost of the Fourth of July fireworks during the annual Fireman’s Picnic. The village is paying for the fireworks, to be reimbursed by the fundraising effort.

The board approved a request from The Osthoff to hang banners on the village light poles for the BMW group that is coming to the village in August.

The request is for 10 sign hangers along Osthoff Avenue, Lola Roeh of The Osthoff told trustees. “They will pay for the installation and removal,” Roeh said of the BMW group.

Village Clerk Jeanette Moioffer said it would be better to have village personnel hang and remove the signs, which Roeh said would be agreeable to the BMW group.

Trustee Michael Wolf added that it should also be determined that the village poles will be able to support the banners, which Roeh said are about 30 by 60 feet, before they are installed.

The board approved a $5,000 loan and sign grant from the Community Development Authority for Nicola’s Gift Shop, approved the street closing request from the Chamber of Commerce for Downtown Night Aug. 9, and gave permission for Jeff Mayerl and Lindy Sickinger to have their wedding ceremony on the village beach July 9.

“They know there is no food or drink on the beach and they know everyone has the right to use the beach at that time,” Moioffer assured the trustees.
