RICHARD A. BERRES

Richard A. Berres, age 79, of N1393 Silver Creek-Cascade Road, Adell, Wis., passed away Sunday evening, July 11, 2010, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice where he was a patient the past two weeks.

Richard was born Dec. 4, 1930 in West Bend, son of the late Gregory and Marie Mauer Berres. He attended St. Michael’s Grade School in St. Michael, Wis.

Richard served in the United States Navy from 1950-52 on the U.S.S. Helena (CA-75) vessel in the Korean War.

On Dec. 22, 1951, he married Marion Knorr at St. John’s Lutheran Parsonage in Sherman Center. The couple have resided in Gooseville since their marriage.

Richard worked for Mercury Marine in Cedarburg and Fond du Lac for 40 years, retiring in 1995.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching football and racing.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Marion of Adell; three children: Doreen Dahm of Belgium, Elroy (Sandra) Berres of Fredonia and Ralph Berres (special friend, Lynn) of Cascade; five grandchildren: Lorelei (Brian) Schommer of Belgium, Jeff (Dana) Dahm of Random Lake, Cheryl Gnodtke of Port Washington, Michael Berres of Fredonia and Amy (Jared) Cottrell of Saukville; six great-grandchildren: Nicole Schommer, Samantha, Zachary and Lukas Dahm, Blake Gnodtke and Hayden Cottrell; one brother, Roger Berres of Plymouth; two sisters, Audrey Berres of West Bend and Susan (Ron) Wagner of West Bend; four nieces, two nephews, one grandnephew; step sister-in-law, Clara Schaeffer of Brookfield; step niece-in-law, Hilda (James) Baumgartner of Brookfield; step nephew, Walter (Pat) Schaeffer of Waukesha; step grandniece, Clarie Schaeffer of Waukesha; and also survived by other relatives and many friends.

He was also preceded in death by his father- and mother-in-law, George and Marie Knorr; infant brother-in-law, Hans Knorr; stepbrother, George Schaffler; son-in-law, Rick Dahm; and great-grandson, Adam Dahm.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Friday, July 16, at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Nancy Simenz, chaplain from Sharon S. Richardson Hospice, will officiate. Cremation will follow services and inurnment will be in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in the town of Sherman.

Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home from 4 p.m. Friday until the time of services. The Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post #5612 will conduct military rites following the services at the funeral home.

A memorial fund is being established in Richard’s name.
