MANITOWOC – The Late Models were the spotlight of the Eastern Wisconsin Stock Cars program here Friday night.
Tom Naeyaert (Shawano) jumped out to an early lead, running the high side, and Rick Scheffler (Waukesha) right in his tracks. After an early caution on six for a spin by Billy Rezutek (Big Bend), the field was quickly realigned with Naeyaert, Bret Sievert (New Berlin), Scheffler, Craig Schueffner (Sheboygan Falls), Russ Scheffler (Waukesha), and Dan Sorce at the head of the field.
At the drop of the green, cars were three-wide, making moves in the middle of the pack trying to come forward. At the front Naeyaet held the high line and Rick Scheffler the low side, as they battled door to door for several circuits with Rick Scheffler finally wrestling the lead away on lap 12.
On the next lap, the yellow again waved as Matt Schultz stalled on the front stretch. On the restart it was Rick, Naeyaert, Sievert, Schueffner, Russ, Sorce, and Tim Buhler (Glenbeulah) bringing the field to the green.
Some hard, clean racing took place as the rest of the race was caution-free with Rick Scheffler holding off Naeyaert, followed by Russ Scheffler, Sievert and Schueffner, respectively.
The Brian Gilles of Plymouth won the Grand Nationals feature. Tim Thompson (Campbellsport) placed second, followed in order by Brett Wenzel (Manitowoc), Alex Stumpf (Brillion) and Don Bolander (Chilton).
T.J. Luedke of Plymouth finished first in the 360 Sprint Cars feature race. Taking second was Jeremy Schultz (Beaver Dam), followed by Dan Schlafer (Sussex), Shane Wenninger (Kewaskum) and Terry Marten (Falls), respectively.
Brad Ruh, Elkhart Lake, captured the checkered flag in the Hobby Stocks A-Main (feature) event. Jeff Bender of Plymouth earned second, followed in order by Kyle Resch (Manitowoc), Steven Gretz (Francis Creek) and Jeff Koehler (Manitowoc).
