Storm knocks out power in parts of city

Thunderstorms Wednesday night and early Thursday morning caused scattered and significant power outages in the area, Plymouth Utilities reported.

Some 80 customers in Plymouth — in the area north of Eastern Avenue including Highland Avenue, Kensington Avenue, Hilltop Lane, Bruns Avenue, Salem Drive, Bonnie Court, Bishop Avenue, Samuel Court and Douglas Drive — lost power at 12:40 a.m. Thursday when lightning knocked out a portion of an electrical distribution circuit. The outage also affected one of the city’s sewage lift stations located in the 400 block of Highland Avenue, but did not cause any sewage related problems.

The power was for two-and-a-half hours before a crew was able to safely energize the circuit by 3:10 a.m., according to Plymouth Utilities.

Another outage at 6:19 a.m. Thursday affected some 120 customers in Plymouth south of State 57 — including Milwaukee Street, Suhrke Road, Grove Street, Krumrey Street, Marshner Street, Victor Court, Edna Street, Forest Avenue, Caroline Street and Smith Street. The outage was caused by broken pole. It lasted until 7:30 a.m., when a crew was able to re-energize the line while work continued on replacing the pole.

Staff at the Plymouth Wastewater Treatment Plant reported that Plymouth received 2.65 inches of rain in the storm.
