Legion names Leibham Legislator of the Year

State Sen. Joe Leibham has been named the 2010 Legislator of the Year by the Wisconsin America Legion. The award was presented to Leibham as a part of the 92nd annual Wisconsin American Legion Convention that was held July 16-18 in Wausau.

In presenting the award, Leo Endres, department commander, said Leibham was selected due to his outstanding leadership in support of the Wisconsin American Legion and its members. “Sen. Leibham has demonstrated an untiring commitment to Wisconsin veterans,” Endres said. “Because of his dedication, Wisconsin veterans and their families have a collection of benefits that will protect them well into the future.”

Leibham, who has authored and supported numerous military/veteran legislative proposals over the past year, said he was honored to accept the award. “I am humbled by this recognition. While the award is appreciated, it really is unnecessary. The liberties, freedoms and security provided to me and my family due to the service and sacrifice of our military personnel, both past and present, are awesome awards received each day,” he said. “I will continue to represent our area by ensuring that the benefits and programs that we provide to our veterans and their families are maintained and enhanced.”

Leibham was also recognized for his leadership on veteran's issues by Sheboygan American Legion Post 83 during their spring banquet in May. Post 83 1st Vice Commander Greg Eirich from Sheboygan and a number of other area Legionnaires joined Leibham at the awards program.
