CYNTHIA A. VASQUEZ

Cynthia A. “Cyndy” Vasquez, age 55, of 301 Grove St., Plymouth, Wis., passed away early Sunday morning, Aug. 8, 2010, at the Sharon S. Richardson Hospice where she had been a resident for the past four days.

She was born Feb. 25, 1955 in Onalaska, Wis., a daughter of the late Andrew and Gladys Hanley Mikels. She attended Holmen High School and also Western Wisconsin Technical College.

She married Dennis L. Dissmore in La Crosse, Wis.

She worked for the state of Wisconsin for 27 years and was currently the warden’s secretary at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution.

On May 25, 1985, she married Samuel Vasquez in Racine. Cyndy served Thanksgiving dinner for the past several years at the Homeless Shelter in Green Bay.

She enjoyed reading, gardening, true crime stories, and spending time with her granddaughter.

Survivors include her children: Dennis J. Dissmore of Poynette, Wis.; Rachel M. Vasquez of Sturtevant, Wis.; and Samuel J. Vasquez of Plymouth; her granddaughter, Layla Staufenbeil; two brothers, Robert (Wanda) Mikel of Parsons, Kan., and Keith (Laurie) Mikels of La Crosse; two sisters, Patricia LeBlanc of Margate, Fla., and Cheryl (Daniel) Deml of La Crosse; and also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Dennis Mikels, Patrick “Joe” Mikels, Lawrence “Butch” Mikel and Thomas Mikels; five sisters, Sandra Mikels, Yvonne “Bonnie” McCambridge, Rita Lambert, Jean Clark and Mary Collins.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. The Very Rev. Dennis Van Beek, pastor of the church, will officiate. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be in La Crosse.

Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of services.

A memorial fund is being established in her name.
