Falls teams found plenty of success
by Steve Ottman Falls News Correspondent
Looking back at the 2009-2010 Sheboygan Falls Falcons sports season, there were many individual and team accomplishments that stood out, but in the overall picture it concluded as a special year for many programs.
With so many outstanding individuals, it was hard to pin point which achievement was greater. We should give credit to some athletes that set the bar higher for the future.
Ben Chappa brought home a state championship in wrestling, becoming the first Falls wrestler to win a state title since 1986. Chappa, a four-time state qualifier, also placed fourth at state in 2009.
Nathan Brown completed his wrestling career as a four-time state qualifier. Brown finished sixth at state in 2007 and set a school record with 149 overall wins in his career.
Lauren Carman became the school’s first 1,000-point scorer, finishing with a career total of 1,097 points. She also helped lead the Falcons to a share of the EWC title, posting a program-best 13-1 conference record.
Falcons junior Brooke Buehler took home second place finish at state in the long jump for the girls track team. Buehler broke the school record with a jump of 18 feet and one-quarter inch.
Ashley Entringer and Brianna Nack qualified for state in girls tennis, while both completed a four-year stint on the varsity squad.
There were a number of team marks set during 2009-2010, which left memories and a little history.
The Falcons football team came up with one of the strangest wins in school history. Falls and Two Rivers slugged it out for four quarters and three overtimes, before the Falcons earned a 3-0 homecoming win on a field goal kicked by Kody Meanor.
The Falls volleyball team won its first Sheboygan County Classic title since 1997, while also winning its fourth straight regional title.
The golf team also doubled-up by also taking the Sheboygan County Championship, while advancing to sectional play for the second straight year.
Falls teams won three EWC titles, during the 2009-10 season.
The girls basketball squad won a conference title for the second time in three years. The wrestling team captured the EWC crown for the third time in four years and the girls soccer squad finally took first place honors away from Plymouth.
The volleyball, girls soccer, girls basketball and golf teams each claimed regional titles. Give credit to all of the players and coaches for adding more hardware to the high school trophy case and giving us another great season.
