Plymouth White wins Cadet title
PLYMOUTH – The Plymouth White team capped off an outstanding season with a 6-4 win over Sheboygan Falls in the championship game of the Lakeshore Baseball League’s sixth-grade Cadet playoffs here July 26.
Michael Chorowicz slugged a solo home run and had three hits to spark Plymouth’s attack. Samuel Staehling contributed two hits and struck out the side in the top of the seventh inning to preserve the victory.
Falls led 4-1 after two but head coach Randy Meyer’s squad responded with five straight runs. A two-run fifth gave the White a 6-4 advantage. Plymouth outhit Falls 10-5.
The White defense played errorless ball and threw out one runner at third base and two more at home. Collin Meyer pitched three scoreless innings in relief for Plymouth.
Plymouth earned the No. 1 seed in the playoffs after placing first in the regular season with a 13-1 record. The White advanced to the title game with a 13-2 rout over Port Washington in the semifinals. Port Washington gave the White its only division loss.
The White exploded for nine runs in the second to build a 9-2 lead. The contest ended after 4½ innings due to the 10-run rule.
Staehling and Ian Eickhoff clubbed one homer each and Cole Henning was 3-for-3 to ignite Plymouth’s bats.
Meyer and Staehling blanked Port Washington’s potent offense – allowing zero runs on only two hits over the final four innings.
The White finished the season an impressive 18-2 overall.
“With the season now complete, I know these boys have accomplished a lot and grew as baseball players,” Meyer said.
“However, playing the game is what really matters. Playing well, succeeding and a first-place medal are all just huge bonuses.
“I would like to thank all of the parents of these boys and my coaches for a season-long, rewarding experience that I will not soon forget,” Meyer said.
