GLADYS ANNA MARIE HAAS

Gladys Anna Marie Haas, age 97, of W7850 County SS, Adell, Wis., passed away late Monday afternoon, Aug. 9, 2010, at Beechwood Rest Home where she had been a resident for the past 14 days.

She was born Oct. 31, 1912 in Duluth, Minn., a daughter of the late August and Bertha Schleif Groeschel. She attended Duluth and Giese Grade School in Minnesota and graduated from the Milwaukee Vocational School in the Business Course.

On Jan. 12, 1930, she married John Haas in McGrath, Minn. They lived at Arthyde and Brainerd, Minn., before moving to Milwaukee in 1940.

She worked at Sentry Foods in Plymouth for 10 years in the floral, bakery and deli departments, retiring in 1977. She assisted in her husband’s business, Haas Garage in Batavia for many years.

Her husband preceded her in death Nov. 7, 1994.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cascade, sang in the church choir, and was a member of the Christian Mothers where she served two terms as president and one as vice president.

Her hobbies were quilting, gardening and working with her flowers.

In 1984 Gladys and her grandson, Jeff, were guests of the Kirin Brewing Co. in Yokohama, Japan for a restoration ceremony of her dad’s grave site, August Groeschel.

Survivors include one daughter, Gladys (Norbert) Koepke of West Allis; one son, Lawrence (Ella Mae) Haas of West Bend; three granddaughters: Barbara Haas of Valders, Beverly (Leander) Schad of Stoughton, Wis., and Kristi (Daniel) Lawrence of West Bend; two grandsons, Jeffrey (Shirley) Haas of Reno, Nev., and Steven (Diane) Koepke of Michigan; seven great-grandchildren: Emily, Hanna and Peter Lawrence of West Bend; Corey and Amanda Schad of Kiel; and David and Daniel Koepke of Milwaukee; two sisters, Ruth Groeschel and Doris Hicks of Finlayson, Minn.; and former daughter-in-law, Eileen Burkhardt of Brillion, Wis. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Donald; two grandsons, Scott Koepke and Kevin Haas; and two brothers, Roy and Whitney Groeschel.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Cascade.

Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth from 4 p.m. Thursday until the time of services.

A memorial fund is being established in Gladys’ name.
