SHARON M. (WOLF) PETERSEN

Sharon M. Petersen, age 77, of Bishop Avenue in Plymouth, died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at Sharon Richardson Community Hospice following her struggle with cancer.

She was born July 18, 1933 in Plymouth, a daughter of the late Harley and Naomi (Steinhardt) Wolf. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1951. On Aug. 14, 1954, she was united in marriage to Burdette (Bud) Petersen at Salem UCC in Plymouth.

The couple lived in Rolla, Mo., Alpha, Minn., and for a short time in Sheboygan, before moving to Plymouth in 1956.

Sharon had been employed in the offices of the R.H. Versch Co., Gilson Brothers, Lawn Boy, the Toro Co. and Vollrath Co. as a receptionist until her retirement in 1997.

Her husband preceded her in death in 2001.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth, where she served on the Altar Guild, belonged to several Bible classes, belonged to the Monday afternoon prayer group, helped with the church newsletter and was a member of the “Well Seasoned” group and played in the church bridge marathon.

Sharon was a member of the auxiliary of the Ladwig-Zinkgraf American Legion Post. Sharon had also been a stockholder and worked for the Sheboygan County Fair Association from 1967-98 and was also a volunteer for special events at the fair including the stock car races. She had also been a member of the Plymouth Women’s Civic Society.

Sharon enjoyed her family, gardening and working around the yard and house, playing bridge, reading and watching old movies on TV.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Gerald (Jill) Petersen of Dousman, Wis., and Stanley (Kris) Petersen-Gauthier of Appleton, Wis.; two grandchildren, Joel and Emma Petersen-Gauthier; two sisters-in-law, Doris (Robert) Erickson of Eagon, Minn., and Bernice (Rev. Norman) Ruthenbeck of Edina, Minn., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father- and mother-in-law, Albert and Adelia Petersen.

Funeral services were held Saturday noon, Aug. 14, at St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth. The Rev. Nathan Meador, pastor of the church, officiate.

Burial took place in Plymouth Woodlawn Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Sharon’s name for St. John Lutheran Church.
