Lakeshore Summer Players present “Godspell”

“Godspell” is playing in the area Aug. 25, 26, and 27!

Stephen Schwartz (who appeared in “Wicked”) and John Michael Tebelak's long-running Broadway Musical, “Godspell” (“The Gospel” in Old English) is being performed at the Oostburg High School Theater by the “Lakeshore Summer Players” at the end of August.

This multi-talented group of actors, musicians, and singers joined together for this production to bring the color, energy and emotion of “Godspell” to the stage. Based on the Gospel of Matthew and adapted from the original l970s stage play, this heartfelt performance in a very intimate setting is a performance not to be missed.

From the innocence, storytelling and laughter of Act 1 to the betrayal and emotion of Act 2, this show is truly a celebration of community and life. The music is from the original Broadway Score, featuring wellknown songs: “Prepare Ye the Way,” “Day by Day,” “Turn Back, Oh Man,” “All for the Best,” “Oh Bless the Lord,” “By My Side” and others.

The cast incorporates ballads, vaudeville, choreographed dance, pantomime, and a vast range of song, dance and retelling the parables to connect the audience with the growing relationship between Jesus and His followers. The final scenes of the betrayal, death and resurrection of Christ will challenge your every emotion.

Dear Old Books, Plymouth Doors open at 6:30 with showtime 7 p.m. for all performances. Due to the intensity of scenes in Act 2, and in consideration of cast and audience, this show is not recommended for small children.
