CARL H. BUCHHOLZ

Carl H. Buchholz, age 96, formerly of 4819 W. Grandview Road, Glendale, Ariz., passed away late Sunday evening, Aug. 22, 2010, at Pine Haven Christian Home in Sheboygan Falls where he had been a resident.

He was born on Jan. 13, l914 in the town of Lima, Wis., a son of the late Henry and Augusta Brautgam Buchholz.

He attended Plymouth area grade schools and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1931.

On May 17, 1941, he married Verona Weinhold in the town of Lyndon, Wis. They lived in the town of Sheboygan Falls after their marriage.

Carl’s roots in the community are deep and strong, much like him – a machinist by trade, talent and tenacity. He worked for the Kohler Company for 11 years, the R.H. Versch Company for 2-1/2 years and J. S. Richardson Company for 32 years, retiring in 1979. Carl would say that if it could be made by a machine, he had an idea about how it could be done.

In 1980, they moved to Glendale, Ariz. He moved back to the Plymouth area in 2002. His wife preceded him in death on Sept. 11, 2000.

He was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Waldo.

In 2004, Carl made a donation to the Sheboygan County Fair for a new 60’x100’ beef barn (that can hold 100 beef cattle) inside of Gate 2. The barn bears his name – Buchholz Beef Barn.

Carl’s interest in beef cattle began in 1960. Carl and Verona raised 50-72 registered polled Herefords on 48 acres of land on Sumac Road outside of Plymouth.

In 2007 on Carl’s 93rd birthday he donated to the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice Home. Carl chose to name the living room at the hospice facility through his gift in memory of his wife Verona and son Robert Buchholz.

Carl was a member of the Wisconsin Polled Hereford Association, Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association and the National Polled Hereford Association. He was a past director for the Wisconsin Polled Hereford Association.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty (James) Rautmann of Phoenix, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Deana (R.C.) Craigo of Phoenix and Natalie Rautmann of Phoenix; one brother- and sister-in-law, Oliver and Joyce Weinhold of Milwaukee; one niece, Nancy (Roland) Schumacher of Fond du Lac, Wis.; one nephew, Willard (Carol) Fenner of Plymouth.
