Solid record

To the Editor:

Sen. Russ Feingold took a courageous stand on "warrant- less-wiretapping" and stood up to a president who acted like the Bill of Rights and the Constitution were repealed by 9/11. No wonder he received a John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award.

Also, as one of too few senators he was wise enough not to allow himself to vote for the Iraq War we were lied into. As we sadly watch the elimination of small business people and working men and women from the middle class, brought on by CAFTA, NAFTA, GATT, "gifts to the rich" tax policies, reduced government regulation and the Most Favored Nation Treatment of the PRC, know that Russ voted against all of them.

Only Russ, the fifth-poorest senator by individual net worth in the senate, has and will continue to have just the interests of Wisconsin's small business people and working men and women at heart as he continues to fight and win for them. Despite the overwhelming opposition by "big health insurance," "big pharma," "big oil," "big coal" and the "banksters" who wrecked your retirements, savaged your savings and poisoned your investments, Russ continues to insist on government of, by and for the people and not the special interests and their bought-and-paid-for politicians from 2000-2008.

Russ has also demonstrated REAL bi-partisanship in the best interests of our country by coauthoring the McCain-Finegold Bill to eliminate or reduce the flood of special interest cash buying politicians and corrupting elections. He is also working on a bill with Congressman Paul Ryan(RWI) to enact a presidential line item veto to carve "pork" out of future federal budget bills.

The bible says, "By their acts, you shall know them." Compare Russ's acts with his probable opponent. Johnson has already caved-in to his perceived clamoring for smoking in public places. Johnson has also repeated the scientifically rejected falsehood that "sun spots" are the proximate cause of global warming. Finally, Johnson opposed extending the statute of limitations for predator-abused children in the proposed child victims act.

We can't go backward; we must move forward. Don't trade spine and foresight for a pandering empty suit.
