PLYMOUTH – Ashley Doebert, age 15, Plymouth, is the daughter of Russell and Kathy Doebert. A 10th-year member of the Plymouth Shamrocks 4-H Club, she entered a pointillism drawing in the drawing and painting category at the Sheboygan County Fair and her extreme amount of patience has paid off. She has received a Merit Award for her efforts.
“My mom is an art teacher at Plymouth High School, and she taught me how to do this,” Doebert said. “Pointillism is using dots, with a marker, like a Sharpie, to fill in the picture.”
Doebert's picture is on a 24-by-24-inch sheet of heavy watercolor paper. She drew the apple blossoms, branches and some berries freehand and once the picture is drawn, she starts with the ink dots.
“I found this picture on Google and I replicated it on the heavy watercolor paper,” Doebert said. “I have done this before.
“It’s addicting!” Doebert exclaimed. “Once you do one, you have to do another.
“I have done an underwater picture with fish and turtles,” Doebert added.
The award-winning picture is a sea of pinks, blue, peach and browns. It is filled with shading and it is very appealing to look at.
“I am really satisfied with how it turned out,” Doebert said.
“I will put it in my room or give it to my grandma because she really likes flowers and she loves to see me do this,” Doebert continued. “She finds it fascinating.
“The judge wanted to know how long it took to do this, and I lost track after 40 hours,” Doebert said. “I would do it during commercials while watching television.
“I like doing dot pictures better than any other kind of painting or drawing,” Doebert added.
