The Sheboygan Falls Plan Commission approved a conditional-use permit to accommodate a new martial arts school, during a swift monthly meeting Tuesday, Aug. 24, at the City Hall Municipal Building.
Jeff Sass submitted the conditional-use permit request for a martial arts school he plans to open at 1086 Fond du Lac Ave.
Sass said the school would likely be open weeknights from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m., as well as mornings on selected days.
The commission established a provision restricting the school from being in operation between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Sass, who is an officer with the Kohler Police Department, said he had previously owned and operated a martial arts school in California in the late 1990s.
“Our school will be open to children as well as adults, so we will have people from all age ranges,” Sass said. “We will be teaching three styles of martial arts when we get things up and running.”
Sass also noted that no exterior changes will be made to the unit of the retail center, where the school will be location.
The motion passed 4-0, as Mayor Randy Meyer exercised his option to cast a vote in the absence of commissioners John Kregel, John Blattner and Thomas McCue.
The Common Council will consider the request at is next meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 7. The new Sheboygan Falls Plan Commission meeting is tentatively slated for Tuesday, Sept. 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the City Hall Municipal Building.
