Electronics recycling law goes into effect

Wisconsin's new electronics recycling law took effect Wednesday, Sept. 1.

It bans the use of landfills or incinerators to dispose of old electronic devices, including televisions and computers. The ban also includes keyboards, speakers, flash drives and other computer accessories, as well as cell phones.

The law covers everyone in Wisconsin, including schools, businesses and households.

Old electronic devices can be dropped off at specific recycling sites for a fee. The Department of Natural Resources has a list of those sites on its website.

City of Plymouth Public Works Director William Immich told the City Council at their Tuesday meeting that a list of recyclers in the Plymouth area will be posted on the city’s website soon.

State to allow hunting in Door County parks

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State wildlife officials plan to open two state parks to deer hunters for the first time this year.

The Department of Natural Resources says it will allow deer hunting for the first time in Potawatomi and Whitefish Dunes State Parks in Door County during the regular gun season, which runs from Nov. 20-28.

DNR officials say deer overgrazing has become a serious problem in both parks, hampering forest regeneration. Certain areas of the park will be off-limits to hunters, however.

The DNR says anyone who plans to use the parks during the gun season will do so at their own risk and should wear blaze orange.
