Jaycees need support

To the Editor:

We feel so sad for the Sheboygan Falls Jaycees. Their big fundraiser for the year is Falls Fest, which held on Saturday, Aug. 21.

There was a parade at 10 a.m., which we walked in supporting Randy Meyer, who by the way would do a great job for us as our Assembly representative for District 27.

We were surprised that there weren’t as many people watching as there has been in the past. After the parade, we went to the park to get some lunch, and then we went to work as volunteers at the concession stand.

We have volunteered for many years at Falls Fest and this is the first year we were not busy. When we were done working there, we went to work in the Bingo tent until 10 p.m.

The bingo tent is always busy, from the time it opens until it closes, but not this year.

We would like to ask the community, “Why don’t you support the Jaycees?” Do you know all the things the Jaycees have done for us?

The Sheboygan Falls Jaycees organize and support annual projects and events such as the Easter Egg Hunt, sandbox fill, Falls Fest, NFL Punt, Pass and Kick, monthly bingo for the elderly at Pine Haven, two Red Cross blood drives, college scholarships, Red Cross putt, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowling Tournament, open ice skating at Blue Line Ice Center, holiday baskets for food pantry and Major League baseball pitch, hit and run.

Over the years, the Jaycees have played in a key role in major construction and improvement projects like the River Park footbridge, River Walk trail, Rochester Park additions, park shelter construction and playground equipment upgrades at River Park.

I bet most, if not all of you, have benefited from one or all of these things. So why isn’t the support there? We are sure Falls Fest has once again gone in the hole. If we were them, we would not do it anymore. This event is supposed to be their biggest fundraiser for the year, but not since Ducktona took over.

If you enjoy playing bingo, the Jaycees hold it on the third Monday of every month at City Hall Please come and play, because this year it is their only fundraiser.

So if you want them to keep doing these things for the community, please support them.

This letter represents only our own feelings and thoughts. However, the list of things the Jaycees have done for the community are facts.

We have never been Jaycees members, but we volunteer when they need us and support them because we like them and all they do for our community.

Fay and Art Risse
