Johnson takes second to lead PHS girls at West Bend CC Invite
WEST BEND – Junior Haley Johnson finished runner-up to pace the Plymouth Panthers in the girls race at Saturday’s West Bend Invitational cross country meet.
Johnson ran the 2.5-mile course in 15 minutes, 27.89 seconds. Niki Rhyan of PHS placed ninth in 16:07.49.
Miranda Brown of Fond du Lac St. Mary’s Springs was first in 15:24.39. Neenah won the 17-team girls meet with a cumulative time of 1:19:27 for its top-five runners. PHs was ninth in 1:27:28.
Lucas Schmidt led the Panthers in the boys event – capturing 20th in 17:39.79 over 3.1 miles. The team’s next-best finisher was Mitch Tournour, 72nd in 19:13.29.
PHS took 11th in the 18-team boys competition with 1:35:49. Neenah won the title with 1:24:39. Josiah Swanson of Fond du Lac was the winner in 16:14.99. “Our teams ran well against some tough competition,” said PHS head coach Jay Grosshuesch. “Niki and Haley ran great races. Luke and Mitch led us well for the boys.”
